Melting Away

print – illustration – typography

Melting Away, a documented ten-year journey through the harsh truths of glaciers melting rapidly in the Earth's polar regions. The type and illustration is designed to depict this documentary and the Earth's changing landscapes effected by global warming.

Personally when I choose a book to read, I don't go by the reviews but the design on the cover. This documentary book, being about the harsh truths of global warming, needed an edgy feel to get viewers to want pick it up and read it. As a designer, I wanted to create a book cover that had depth, literally. I started with a low poly illustration that I later printed out and created a 3D effect to portray the glacier itself. I also wanted the title to look interesting and cohesive with the illustration that I created. Designing the book its own edgy typeface, I placed it on vinyl to give it even more depth to push the concept of how global warming is effecting our planet.
